Shelf Layout (Part 3)

Another video!  This time I'm installing track which is *super exciting*.  More to come in the future however.

  1. Enjoyed checking out your blog, nice work. I'm working on a shelf-layout as well and I'm enjoying the process, though my time to spend on it is limited. I'm blogging about the construction here http://westtorontojunction.blogspot.ca. When you have a second, it might be worth a visit. I've linked to many other model RR blogs. Keep posting and good luck. PS - What colour did you use on the backdrop of your shelf layout? I'm starting to think mine is to thin and white, not blue enough to resemble a real sky.

    1. Thanks Scott. The camera I'm using is a refurbished Canon T4i. I had a really hard time with video in the past (it felt awkward when I was recording myself), but with the T4i the LCD swings out, and so when I'm shooting a video I can see myself on the screen. This actually made it a lot easier to record videos and not feel really weird about it. I'd definitely recommend that feature if you were going to pickup another camera an plan to do something similar.

Between part 1 and part 2 I also picked up an inexpensive mic. This one actually: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002HJ9PTO/ref=oh_details_o06_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 That made a big difference on audio quality. You can tell I have a mic on because in this particular video I walk away from the camera towards the end and am still talking, but the volume doesn't drop like you'd normally expect if I was just using the on-camera mic. It'd be nice to have a fancy wireless one, but I don't shoot videos enough to warrant the cost. For $18 it's a must-have if you want to make clear videos.

I do some minor editing in Premier Elements, mostly just cutting scenes to be shorter and adding the intro and exit song, nothing major.

I haven't gotten all the lighting stuff squared away. In this video I took of the valance and relied on the layout lights, but in other videos lighting was an issue. I need to pickup one of those cheapo flood lights from Home Depot or something for my next video.
