Planning out the Scenery
Now that infrastructure and benchwork is winding down (I just need to handle throwing the turnouts), I've begun thinking about and planning scenery.
Hey, it's wood blocks! No, but really, having something as simple as wood scraps to set up and occupy 3D space on an otherwise flat layout can be a big help. I think I'm beginning to get a picture of how this might go together.
Start on the far left, this area will be industrial and aquaculture related. I plan to hide the cassette transition by having a lower mini backdrop. I'm seeing 3 warehouse attached to the mini backdrop that are only about 1/4" to 1/2".
Moving to the right a bit, represented by the many tall 1x2 pieces will be a mostly forest-y area, primarily to hide the entrance to the cassette.
I'd like to cover the seam between the sections, in front at least, with some kind of removable building, perhaps a boat servicing type of facility.
On to the middle area a bit, I'm tempted to put a passenger depot smack in the middle of the two tracks, with a freight area on the track in the back.
The right section will continue with industrial buildings, but these will be more storage and general freight oriented. The exception to this will be the building out on the wharf with a track leading out to it. This will be a major aquaculture industry of some sort.
On the extreme right will be the stereotypical lighthouse and more trees.
And here's a picture of maine 2-footers because it's awesome:
