Well I was down in the basement again today. I finished up painting the fascia of the second section which means tomorrow I'll bring it upstairs and set it up again in the loft. The second section needs a lot more wiring work and a touch more track.
While I was down there I started doing some measuring, envisioning, and inspecting as to how the walls might get built for finishing the basement. The way things are looking, there is going to be a lot I need to take care of in order to finish things. This is the first time I've stared to doubt is finishing the basement for the purpose of having a large layout is a good idea. Honestly though, I'm not sure what other alternatives there would be, except to perhaps bolt 2x2'x to the cement walls, then mount shelf hangers on those. That might work, but I'd have to cut the insulation and do a lot of drilling. In any case: I need to do some more research.
