Module Framework/Construction

I took my first shot at designing the framework/benchwork for my module.  This design was based what a common N-track module's benchwork looks like.

So now that I've gone and spent an hour and a half, I don't think I'm going to build it this way.  That might sound silly, but in a sense designing it first on the computer is a good way to determine a concept's feasibility before spending actual cash and materials to try it out.

There are a few problem points with this approach:
  1. I think the leg pockets are too short.  The pockets will only hold 2.5 inches of the leg which isn't a whole lot.  An easy solution would just be to make them longer, but there's another problem....
  2. I'm not sure how well an under-the-table turnout throw is going to work with 2" of foam (plus roadbed)
  3. It uses foam.  I hate working with foam.
For my turnout throws I'm planning on using Fast Tracks' BullFrog Dual-Actuator kit.  These use a wire, just like Tortoise and Blue Point, to throw the turnout.

UPDATE

I think I am going to build it this way.  I think I have solutions to 1, 2, and 3.  "Think" I do...
