Moving On

I've decided to move on from the Rio Chama Central.  Here's one last look at what remains.

Instead of trashing it all, I decided to reclaim as much of the material as I could.  From the parts torn down, I've been able to salvage about 50% of the sheet and 90% of the dimensional lumber.

Also, I've been slowly moving into the workshop area.  I still haven't found something I like for the upper shelf for the workbench.

  1. Kinda sad to see what you had taken down but your work area looks good. Definitely a lot more organized.

  2. What material did you use to paint the sky on? Is it only held up by what appears to be a 2x2 on 8 ft centers? Are there any horizontal braces behind the sky that are not visible?

  3. The sheet material is 1/8" MDF which I probably wouldn't pick again. I've had better experiences with 1/8" masonite which I think is what I'm going with from now on. The frame for the backdrop was 1x2's with 2x2's on the corner. Behind the MDF was an "open grid" style frame, with horizontal bars running on the top and bottom and periodic vertical "studs" in between. The setup itself isn't very sturdy but I had cleats that I attached it to on the jousts above which held it in place. All that said, this isn't an approach I'd use again.
