Easton Mill and Powerhouse in HO

I had fun putting together that wooden shed kit, so I figured I'd try another HO structure.  This time I picked up a plastic/resin kit.  The last time I built one of these, I think I was about 10-11 years old.  Still, it does seem familiar.  Even though it's a plastic structure, my hope is that painting and weathering will hide that and bring out a nice final result.

To get working on it, I first needed to take care of this...

Look familiar?
After about 15-20 minutes...

Now I can actually get to work.  The kit comes as a bag of about half a dozen sprues of various parts.  I was surprised to find there are some detail bits included, including crates and 55-gallon drums.  The instructions were a bit sparse, but everything looks simple enough I wasn't too worried.

This kit is made by "RDA" who I've never heard of before.  There are actually two buildings in this kit, the main mill structure and a smaller powerhouse.  The instructions start off with assembly of the mill first, but this being my first plastic kit in the past 15+ years I decided to start with the powerhouse instead.

I set the powerhouse aside to dry.  I still need to add the cupola to the top and assemble the steam boiler.  I then turned my attention to the mill structure.

The longer walls actually come as two pieces.  The instructions show assembly like this...

However, I think I'm going to swap it and have all the doors on one side of the building and all the windows on the opposite side, like this...

This side of the mill will then become the side serviced by the railroad.  The kit only includes a freight landing for one side, so I plan to scratchbuild the landing in wood for the entire length of the building.  It will look something like this when finished and installed by a siding...

That's it for now.  I have a lot of cleaning off of sprues to do still.
