Back Story
When most other railroads in the country were going all diesel, the Longhorn & Golden R.R.'s daily mixed freight was still being pulled behind an alternating pair of 2-8-0 outside frame engines, purchased second hand in the late 20's. Sure, the management had talked about going standard gauge at many 'a board meeting but there simply wasn't enough traffic to maintain a profit in doing so. Truth be told, the LHRR is the only railroad 'round these parts, so steam it was.
Surviving on just enough local traffic to stay afloat the LHRR pulls boxy cars of cattle and grain through the golden brown, frosted plains on a chilly fall morning. Winter is coming. Cattlemen are shipping their last loads of longhorns and owners of elevators their last shipments of grain. There's some pockets of snow around on the chilled landscape from a snow last night.
Location
The LHRR crosses the Texas/Oklahoma state line as it makes it's way from Sweetwater, OK to Blackwell, TX, the southern terminus of the line. In Sweetwater, the closets thing to a "city" the LHRR touches the line meets a standard gauge transfer with the AT&SF.
The area of the layout I'm building is represented in black line. The track to the north on the Oklahoma side is a future expansion. My initial layout efforts will be focused on the southern portion, Blackwell and North Spur.
